Installation Instructions
(NOTE: If you require installation assistance, please reach out to install@stripeman.com and the team will be more than happy to assist you).
The guide covers decal installation only, and directs other install types to the Contact page. Surface temperature should sit between 50°F and 90°F — move the vehicle if needed. Supplies: ruler, masking tape, scissors, lint-free cloth, surface cleaner (isopropyl alcohol recommended), and optionally a slip solution for larger graphics. Never use the wet method with 3M1080 or Avery Supreme Wrap.
Step 1 — Clean the surface with a lint-free cloth and cleaner, turning the cloth several times to remove wax. You want a squeaky feel when dragging fingers across it. Clean it once more when you think it’s done.
Step 2 — Position the graphic with small masking tape strips. Use a horizontal edge or reference point to measure from a body line or trim molding; for flowing designs, step back and judge visually. Transfer measurements from individual points to the opposite side of the vehicle. Take your time here — once installed it cannot be moved.
Step 3 — Place two slightly overlapping vertical tape strips at the approximate center. This is the “hinge” method, letting you install one half at a time.
Step 4 — Remove tape from one end, slowly peel the backing paper without touching the adhesive, cut it away with scissors and discard.
Step 5 — Wet application (large graphics only) — Spray slip solution on both the exposed adhesive and the vehicle surface. Swing the decal onto the wet surface with just enough tension to avoid wrinkles, then squeegee from center to ends in semi-circular overlapping motions. No excessive pressure needed; the solution lubricates. Slip solution: 32 oz clean tap water plus one drop of dish detergent — too much soap makes the application tape hard to remove.
Step 6 — Dry application (small decals: 4×4, Sport, Limited Edition) — Same swing-and-squeegee motion, but use moderate pressure for adhesion.
Step 7 — Remove the center hinge, peel the remaining backing, swing the second half over, squeegee, then re-squeegee the whole graphic.
Step 8 — Remove application tape by pulling back at 180°. If the decal lifts, push the tape back the other way and re-squeegee. Cold surfaces or excess detergent may mean waiting several minutes for drying.
Step 9 — Inspect for bubbles. Very small ones usually pass through the vinyl within a couple of weeks. Larger ones: puncture at the edge with a pin and push the air toward the hole.
